I can go planespotting for hours. What is the best vantage point for SFO that you can get to by bike?

Me too!

Millbrae's Bayfront Park is right on the Bay Trail, at the end of Millbrae Ave. It's got side-on views of RWY 28L/R traffic, as well as fairly up-close views of RWY 1R departures at the northern end. This is where most spotters go, especially those from out of town.

A little less obviously legal is the San Bruno Ave overpass over 101 to the north of the airport. Not as wide of a view but heavy departures pass over you pretty low and it's all sorts of visceral!

Also there's a signed bike route all the way through the airport and unlike driving that road in a car, on a bike you can stop and watch for a bit without it looking too suspicious. There's only a chain-link fence separating you from the thresholds of RWY 1L/R! And most afternoons there's the Qantas 747 parked right there by the road too.

I try to keep the spotterswiki page up to date: http://spotterswiki.com/index.php?title=KSFO

Perhaps I should add notes on bike-accessibility.

This is great. Thanks! I ride my bike long-distance almost every weekend and I never thought about riding from the city to SFO.

Cool, let's go for a ride some time!

I've only recently gotten into biking (like, a month ago), but I do about 60-80mi/week commuting to work to/from Caltrain, so I'm in pretty good shape. I just haven't been real adventurous on the weekends!

Heading of 260 degrees :) "Winds from the east steady at 27 knots, gusting to 31 knots (about 35mi/hr)."

HAHA, Yeah, I figured it was something like that. And for some reason, I didn't know you lived in the Bay Area. You know, I'm orig. from San Mateo.
:)

Oh cool! I've lived in the bay area for pretty much the last nine years... minus months here or there in other places around the world :)

Hey did you once mention something about Phonenix NAP sucking? I am trying to remember where I heard this.. thinking about grabbing a cabinet there.

I don't think so! I haven't personally dealt with any datacenters still operating in Phoenix.

Ah, sorry for noise-- don't know where I heard that :) Entirely possible I'm making it up.
